Ito set to represent Japan in 2019 World University Games

Men’s Tennis rising senior Yuya Ito begins play for Japan on July 5 in Naples, Italy.
Austin, Texas – University of Texas Men's Tennis rising senior Yuya Ito will represent his home country of Japan in the 30th World University Games starting on July 5 in Naples, Italy.
Ito will open singles play against Peter Clinton Mutumba of Uganda at a time to be determined on Friday. It will be the second time Ito has competed in the games after reaching the singles quarterfinals in 2017.
This past season at Texas, Ito earned All-America honors in singles and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2019 NCAA Championship team competition. He clinched the final match against defending NCAA Singles Champion No. 8 Petros Chrysochos of Wake Forest to secure the first Men's Tennis team title in school history.
Ito also reached the Round of 16 in the NCAA Singles Championship, was named the 2019 ITA Texas Region Player to Watch and first-team All-Big 12 in singles, and he was the Big 12 Individual Champion at No. 2 Singles. He finished the season ranked No. 8 in singles by the ITA, leading the Longhorns in dual match wins with a 28-3 record with all three losses coming to ranked opponents. He also posted a 41-7 overall record including fall tournament play.
