The senior forward is one of 30 women’s players in the running for the prestigious Division I honor
AUSTIN, Texas – As a result of her outstanding efforts both on and off the pitch, Texas soccer senior forward Cyera Hintzen has been selected as one of 30 women's Division I candidates for the prestigious 2019 Senior CLASS Award®.
To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must be classified as a NCAA Division I senior and possess notable achievements in four specific areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award® focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
A two-time United Soccer Coaches All-American, Hintzen has continued to have a strong impact on the pitch despite dealing with some recent injury woes. The Garland, Texas, product has registered two goals and four assists for eight points over six matches this season. She got her final campaign off to a roaring start against Gonzaga back on Aug. 22 by scoring her 10th career match-winner (fourth all-time in Texas history) while dishing a career-high three assists in Texas' 4-3 victory. Hintzen also scored a valuable insurance goal via a second-half header in the Longhorns' 2-0 win over Washington (Sept. 13). She is currently tied for fifth in the Texas career record book for goals (24), tied for seventh in assists (18) and sixth in total points (66).
Off the field, Hintzen maintains a 3.41 GPA in applied movement science with a minor in business and was named a 2018 United Soccer Coaches First-Team Scholar All-American and All-West Region selection for her efforts in the classroom. In the community, she has been involved with a myriad of projects including: the Special Olympics, visits to Dell Children's Hospital and working with TexasTHON to benefit the Dell Children's Miracle Network, UT & Me: National Women & Girls in Sports Day and the MLK Day of Service.
The 30 women's candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one female candidate that best exemplifies excellence in the four "C's" of community, classroom, character and competition.
The Senior CLASS Award® winner will be announced during the 2019 Women's College Cup® championship in December.
Hintzen and her Texas teammates are scheduled to open Big 12 play on the road this weekend with trips to battle Kansas (Thurs., Sept. 26, 7 p.m., broadcast on FS1) and Kansas State (Sun., Sept. 29, 1 p.m. CT, broadcast on Big 12 Now on ESPN+).
