UT senior went 3-0 in singles with a pair of wins against ranked opponents at the Pink Flamingo Invitational.
AUSTIN, Texas — University of Texas senior Anna Turati has been named the Big 12 Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. Turati earned her second career weekly conference honor, as she previously claimed Co-Player of the Week accolades on April 9, 2019.
Turati, tied for No. 4 in the final fall Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) singles rankings, posted a perfect 3-0 mark in singles and a 2-1 record in doubles last weekend at the inaugural Pink Flamingo Invitational. The event was a four-team round-robin tourney that featured singles and doubles competition between Texas and No. 4 UCLA, No. 21 Florida and No. 23 Miami (Fla.) at Baha Mar Resort in Nassau, Bahamas.
Turati posted a pair of singles wins against ITA ranked opponents, including an impressive 6-2, 7-5 victory against No. 14 Elysia Bolton of UCLA at No. 1 singles. Turati also topped No. 96 Victoria Emma of Florida at No. 2 singles by a 6-1 decision (match shortened to a single set) and recorded a 6-1, 6-0 win against Daevenia Achong of Miami at No. 2 singles.
Playing alongside her twin sister Bianca Turati in doubles on court one, the duo earned a 6-3 victory against Victoria Emma and McCartney Kessler of Florida and a 6-2 win over Daevenia Achong and Estela Perez-Somarriba of Miami. The twins only setback came in a hard-fought 6-4 decision to UCLA's No. 2-ranked tandem of Elysia Bolton and Jada Hart.
No. 7 Texas opens its 2020 dual-match season on Friday, Jan. 24 (11 a.m. CT), when it hosts Iowa as part of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend at the Texas Tennis Center. UT will host either LSU or Texas Tech on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. CT.
