FORT WORTH, Texas — Junior guard Jase Febres registered a team-high 15 points while converting 5-of-7 from three-point range to lead The University of Texas Men's Basketball team (13-7, 3-4 Big 12) to a 62-61 victory against TCU (13-7, 4-3 Big 12) on Wednesday night at Schollmaier Arena. Febres hit a deep three as the shot-clock expired at the 1:49 mark to break a 59-59 tie and provide the winning points.
Sophomore guard Courtney Ramey tallied 12 points while converting 5-of-7 field goals (2-of-4 threes) in 25 minutes, and junior forward Jericho Sims added a game-high 13 rebounds to go along with 9 points and 2 blocks in 36 minutes. Texas hit its first five three-point field goal attempts of the contest and converted 11-of-22 from beyond the arc on the night.
Leading 37-35 at the 15:52 mark of the second half, the Longhorns used an 8-0 run to build a 45-35 advantage following a Kai Jones dunk with 12:51 remaining. After a Ramey jumper gave Texas a 59-51 cushion at the 4:01 mark, the Horned Frogs scored eight-consecutive points to tie the score at 59-59 on an R.J. Nembhard three-pointer with 2:22 left.
Febres then converted his final three-pointer just before the shot clock expired to give the Longhorns a 62-59 lead with 1:49 remaining. Nembhard hit a pair of free throws to pull TCU within a single point at the 1:17 mark. The Horned Frogs had the ball with 6 seconds left, but Sims played solid positional defense and forced a traveling violation by Nembhard to seal the victory.
