The junior picked up her first-career win at the Arturo Barrios Invitational last weekend.
IRVING, Texas – Texas women's cross country junior Beth Ramos was named the Big 12 Runner of the Week for the first time in her career, the Big 12 Conference announced Wednesday. Ramos' honor comes on the heels of her first career victory, as she paced the field at the Arturo Barrios Invitational behind a personal-best 6K (20:23.8) in College Station.
Ramos, an Edinburg, Texas native, led wire-to-wire at the Arturo Barrios Invitational, holding down the top spot in the field at the 2K, 4K and 6K marks. She was one of four Longhorns to finish in the top-six, and six in the top-11. Texas' 23-point effort helped the Longhorns win the team title, the third-straight year that UT has won its first women's cross country race of the season.
Ramos and the Longhorns are set to return to action on Friday, Oct. 30, at the Big 12 Cross Country Championships in Lawrence, Kansas. Last season, Ramos was one of four Texas women to earn All-Big 12 honors, as UT placed second at the conference meet.
