Longhorns selected behind Baylor, Kansas and West Virginia in coaches’ vote.
IRVING, Texas — The University of Texas men's basketball team is picked to finish in fourth place in the Big 12 Conference in a preseason vote of the league coaches, the conference office announced Thursday. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams.
Baylor claimed the top spot in the poll, earning seven first-place votes and 79 points in polling for the upcoming 2020-21 season. Kansas received the remaining three first-place votes and 73 points in the poll, while West Virginia claimed 61 points. The Longhorns earned 58 points, and rounding out slots five thru 10 in the poll in descending order were Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Iowa State, TCU and Kansas State.
A quartet of returning players were named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Awards teams on Wednesday. Senior guard Matt Coleman III was one of six players on the Preseason All-Big 12 Team, while senior forward Jericho Sims, junior guard Courtney Ramey and freshman forward Greg Brown were named Preseason All-Big 12 Honorable Mention. UT's four total selections were tops among league schools.
Texas opens the regular season at home against UTRGV on Wednesday, Nov. 25.
