Freshman Carson Foster claimed his third-straight league Newcomer of the Week honor.
AUSTIN, Texas — University of Texas Men's Swimming freshman Carson Foster was named the Big 12 Conference Men's Swimming and Diving Newcomer of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. This marked the third-straight cycle that Foster earned the league honor, as he previously claimed the accolade on Nov. 17 and Dec. 1.
During the four-day Texas Hall of Fame Swimming Invitational in Austin (Dec. 2-5), Foster won all three individual events and helped two relay squads claim victory. He anchored the 800-yard freestyle relay to a NCAA 'A' cut time (6:07.34). The 800 free relay team posted the seventh-fastest time in history and the best time ever outside of the NCAA Championship meet.
He claimed individual crowns in the 200-yard individual medley (1:41.98), the 400-yard individual medley with a NCAA 'A' cut time of 3:38.89 and the 200-yard backstroke (1:40.39). Foster also swam the second leg of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay (2:56.87).
Foster and the No. 1 Texas Men's Swimming team return to the pool with a dual meet against TCU on Saturday, Jan. 9 at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center. Due to health and safety protocols, the event is closed to the public.
