Brown and Ramey pace the Longhorns with 17 points each.
AUSTIN, Texas — Freshman forward Greg Brown registered a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while junior guard Courtney Ramey added 17 points and a team-best six assists to lead No. 11/11 Texas (6-1) to a 79-63 victory against Sam Houston State (3-5) on Wednesday night at the Frank Erwin Center. The Longhorns scored the first 11 points of the contest, and the lead did not dip into single digits after the 13-minute mark of the opening half.
Brown converted 5-of-11 field goals and 5-of-7 free throws while adding two steals and two blocked shots in 22 minutes. Ramey tied his career high in three-point field goals made, as he connected on 5-of-7 attempts from beyond the arc in a team-high 33 minutes. Junior guard Andrew Jones added 13 points while hitting 6-of-8 free throws in 24 minutes.
Leading 25-13 at the 8:48 mark, Texas scored eight consecutive points to build a 33-13 cushion after a Brock Cunningham three-pointer with 7:14 remaining. The Longhorns converted 50-percent (14-28) from the field in the first half, including an 8-of-17 mark (.471) from three-point range, while claiming a 44-26 halftime advantage.
UT increased its advantage to as much as 27 points (65-38) following a Donovan Williams three-point play with 11:17 left.
Texas returns to action when it hosts Oklahoma State on Sunday, Dec. 20. Tip is set for 1 p.m. CT at the Erwin Center, and the game will be televised nationally by Longhorn Network.
