AUSTIN, Texas — Redshirt sophomore guard Andrew Jones registered a career-best 21 points, and freshman center Will Baker added a career-high 20 points to lead The University of Texas Men's Basketball team (15-11, 5-8 Big 12) to a 70-56 victory against TCU (14-12, 5-8 Big 12) on Wednesday night at the Frank Erwin Center. Jones converted 7-of-14 field goals, including 3-of-5 from three-point range, in a season-high 36 minutes.
Baker, who had scored just 16 total points in his first 17 collegiate contests entering the night, hit 8-of-12 field goals, including 4-of-6 from three-point range, in a career-best 26 minutes of action. He had 15 points (6-7 FG, 3-3 threes) in 14 minutes during the first half.
Sophomore guard Courtney Ramey recorded 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists without a turnover in a season-high 38 minutes. Freshman forward Kai Jones added a career-high 10 points (3-3 FG, 2-2 threes), 6 rebounds and 2 blocks and in a career-best 35 minutes.
Despite hitting 57.7% (15-26) from the floor, including a perfect 5-of-5 from beyond the arc, the Longhorns trailed 38-36 at the break. The Texas defense was dominant in the final 20 minutes, limiting the Horned Frogs to 18 points on 24.1% (7-29) FG shooting, including a 0-of-10 mark from three-point range. Leading 54-51 with 4:15 remaining, the Longhorns closed the game on a 16-5 run.
