Women’s Tennis advances trio to Round of 16 singles at ITA Texas Regionals

Chavatipon, Collins and Rapolu each post two singles victories on Friday.
FORT WORTH, Texas — The University of Texas Women's Tennis team had a trio of players advance to the singles Round of 16 on Friday during the opening day of the ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) Texas Regionals at the Friedman Tennis Center on the campus of TCU. Sophomores Charlotte Chavatipon, Kylie Collins and Malaika Rapolu each registered a pair of singles wins on Friday.
In Round of 64 singles action on Friday morning, Rapolu earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory against UTSA's Jasmin Starr and Chavatipon posted a 6-1, 6-0 win over Megan Basson of Sam Houston. Collins added a 6-4, 6-4 victory against Tarleton State's Deniza Marcinkevica. Freshman Allura Zamarripa dropped a 6-2, 5-5 (retired) decision to Rice's Diae El Jardi, and freshman Bella Zamarripa fell 6-4, 6-3 to Nicole Petchey of SMU.
During Friday afternoon's Round of 32, Chavatipon claimed a 6-2, 6-1 win over SMU's Claudia Bartolome and Collins registered a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Ana Carmen Zamburek of Baylor. Rapolu closed out the action by rallying for a 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 1-0 (10-6) win over Baylor's Paula Baranano.
Singles action continues on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 10:30 a.m. Central with Round of 16 matches followed by the quarterfinals in the afternoon.
In addition, three UT tandems open play in main draw doubles action on Saturday morning. The pair of freshmen twin sisters Allura Zamarripa and Bella Zamarripa are the 4 seed, while the sophomore duo of Chavatipon and Collins are the 5 seed. Junior Gabby Cusano and sophomore Simran Kortikere will also compete in doubles. All three tandems are scheduled to play Round of 32 matches at 9 a.m. Central.
