World Record shot putter named USATF Male Athlete of the Year
INDIANAPOLIS – Texas Track and Field legend Ryan Crouser was rightfully awarded the 2021 U.S. Track and Field Jesse Owens Award and was one of the three USATF Wing Award recipients on Saturday.
The Jesse Owens Award is presented to the USATF Male Athlete of the Year. In addition to the Olympic Games, Crouser had a historic U.S. Olympic Trials where he shattered the 31-year old men's outdoor shot put World Record with a toss of 23.37m (76-8.25). A few weeks later, his throw of 23.30m (76-5.5) broke the Olympic record and earned him a second-straight Gold Medal. That throw was the second-longest ever, trailing only his World Record mark. He followed the historic season by winning the Diamond League title in Zurich just a month later with 14-straight finals wins and half of the top-10 throws in history.
Crouser was also tabbed with the Best Olympic Field Performance by USATF, one of three Wing Award honors presented during the 2021 USATF Night of Legends Event. His winning mark also set the Olympic record on his way to gold for Team USA.
