O’Neil wins 3-meter title on day one of Big 12 Diving Championship

Freshman Bridget O’Neil posts a Big 12 Championship meet record with 401.00 points.
AUSTIN, Texas — University of Texas freshman Bridget O'Neil captured the 3-meter title to highlight Monday's first day of the Big 12 Diving Championship at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center. O'Neil posted a six-dive total of 401.00 points, setting a Big 12 Championship meet record. Her total eclipsed the previous mark of 384.60 set by Jiayu Chen of Kansas last year.
O'Neil paced a dominant effort by the Longhorns in the 3-meter finals, as Texas swept the top five spots. Junior Paola Pineda placed second (366.70) and was followed by junior Morgan Menninger in third (332.15), sophomore Jordan Skilken in fourth (326.70) and sophomore Janie Boyle in fifth (320.35).
O'Neil led from wire-to-wire in the finals. She registered a score of 72.85 on her third dive, a forward 3 ½ somersault pike (107b) to create separation from the field. O'Neil sealed the victory with a score of 73.50 on her final dive, a forward 2 ½ somersault 1 twist pike (5152b).
The team champions for the Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championship will not be crowned until the completion of Wednesday's platform diving finals. The Big 12 Diving Championship continues on Tuesday, March 2 and Wednesday, March 3 at the Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
Finals sessions are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. CT on both days. All finals sessions of diving will be streamed live on Big 12 Now on ESPN+. Due to health and safety protocols, the event is closed to the public.
