AUSTIN, Texas — Timmy Allen has signed an Athletic Scholarship Agreement (ASA) to play basketball next season at The University of Texas, head coach Chris Beard announced Saturday. Allen, who played his first three seasons at the University of Utah, will join the Longhorns for the upcoming 2021-22 season.
Allen (6-6, 205), a forward from Mesa, Ariz., played in 85 career games (82 starts) and registered 1,323 points (15.6 ppg), 534 rebounds (6.3 rpg) and 261 assists (3.1 apg) while converting 47.9-percent from the floor (471-983) and 74.0-percent from the free throw line (358-484) in his three years at Utah. His 1,323 career points ranks 21st on the Utah all-time scoring list. Allen is just the third player in Utah program history to twice earn USBWA (United States Basketball Writers Association) All-District honors, joining Delon Wright (2014, 2015) and Luke Nevill (2007, 2009).
During his junior season in 2020-21, Allen started all 25 games and led the team in scoring (17.2 ppg) and rebounds (6.4 rpg) and ranked second in assists (3.9 apg) in 35.2 minutes per game. He earned first-team All-Pac-12 honors and was selected to the USBWA All-District VIII team and NABC (National Association of Basketball Coaches) All-District 19 second team. He topped the 20-point mark eight times and reached double figures in scoring in 23 of the 25 games, including a season-high 26 points against California (Jan. 16).
Allen was the only Pac-12 player to rank in the top-10 in the league in scoring (fifth), rebounding (seventh), assists (fifth) and steals (10th). He was also one of just six players in Division I (and one of just two Power 6 players, joined by Illinois' Ayo Dosunmu) to average at least 17.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.
Allen started all 31 games during his sophomore year (2019-20) and claimed All-Pac-12 Second Team and USBWA All-District VIII Team accolades while leading the team in scoring (17.3 ppg) and rebounding (7.3 rpg). He reached double figures in 29 contests and topped the 20-point mark 11 times. A two-time Pac-12 Player of the Week selection, Allen posted six double-doubles and averaged 3.0 assists and 1.2 steals per contest. He tallied a season-high 27 points and five assists in an overtime home win against BYU (Dec. 4) and added 25 points, nine rebounds and four assists in an upset of No. 6/6 Kentucky (Dec. 18).
As a freshman in 2018-19, Allen played in 29 games (26 starts) and earned a spot on the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team while ranking second on the team in scoring (12.2 ppg) and field goal percentage (.575, 127-221) and third in rebounding (5.1 rpg). He reached double digits in scoring 19 times, including a season-high 24 against Oregon State (Feb. 2).
As a senior at Red Mountain High School (Mesa, Ariz.) under head coach Chris Lemon, Allen averaged 19.8 points, 7.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. He was ranked as the No. 101 overall prospect in the nation by 247 Sports in the class of 2018.
