Longhorn trio concludes successful 2021 World Rowing Under 23 Championships

Fran Raggi and Anna Jensen win gold with Team USA in the women’s eight; Susan Temming earns silver with The Netherlands.
RACICE, Czech Republic – University of Texas Rowing All-American Francesca Raggi and Anna Jensen won gold with Team USA in the women's eight, while Susanna Temming paced The Netherlands to a second-place finish on Sunday at the 2021 World Rowing Under 23 Championships.
Raggi also earned a silver medal in the women's four, helping the United States collect two of six medals won during the five-day regatta.
In the women's eight, Raggi rowed at stroke seat and Jensen at three-seat for the United States, while Temming rowed at two-seat for the Dutch National Team.
The U.S. got off the line in second position and took the lead in the second 500 meters. The crew dominated over the second half of the race, winning with a time of 6:19.69. The Netherlands followed with a mark of 6:20.43 with Germany finishing third at 6:26.45.
For Raggi, it was the second medal of the day, having won silver in the women's four in the day's opening race.
Great Britain jumped out to an early lead with the U.S. racing just off their pace in the first 500 meters. The boats pushed their advantage and separated from the rest of the field over the next 500 meters as Team GB extended its lead over the United States. The Americans narrowed the gap over the final 1000m but were unable to overtake the British crew. Great Britain won with a time of 6:35.66, while the U.S. finished second in 6:37.52 and Romania placed third in 6:40.76.
Texas won the 2021 NCAA National Championship in May, the first title in program history. The first varsity eight won the grand final at the NCAA Championship, while all three Texas boats placed in the top-three for the second time in program history. The Longhorns also swept all races at the Big 12 Championship for the sixth consecutive time en route to its sixth-straight league crown.
