AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Texas Women's Tennis team is ranked No. 1 in the Division I Women's ITA preseason Top 25 Coaches Poll, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced Wednesday. The ITA Top 25 Coaches Poll is voted on by the ITA National Ranking Committee which is made up of the 12 ITA Region Chairs, and each chair casts an individual secret ballot.
The Longhorns registered a 31-1 dual-match record in 2021 and captured the third NCAA team title in program history with a dramatic 4-3 victory against Pepperdine in the championship match. Texas ended the 2021 season on a 24-match win streak. UT's 31 dual-match wins established a school single-season record, topping the previous mark of 29 set by the 1983-84 team (29-7 mark). Texas previously won NCAA Championships in 1993 and 1995.
Under the direction of seventh-year head coach Howard Joffe, the Longhorns have finished each of the last four years in the Top 10 of the final ITA national polls. UT earned a No. 6 ranking in 2018, No. 9 in 2019, No. 4 in 2020 and No. 1 last year.
Texas begins its 2022 spring season when it travels to compete in the Miami Invitational on Jan. 15-17 in Coral Gables, Fla.
