Hernandez wins silver on 3-meter at USA Diving Winter Nationals

Hailey Hernandez earned her second medal in as many days and the fourth overall for the Longhorns.
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Texas sophomore Hailey Hernandez won silver on the 3-meter springboard on Saturday at the USA Diving Winter National Championships at the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park. It marked her second podium of the week after winning gold on the 1-meter on Friday.
Hernandez tallied 573.85 point to finish just 5.75 points behind champion Sarah Bacon. Sitting in fourth following the prelims, Hernandez opened the finals scoring 64.80 points with an inward 2 1/2 somersault tuck, the highest score of the opening round. She added a pair of 63-point dives in the third and fourth round to help secure her second medal of the event.
Joining Hernandez in the final were junior Bridget O'Neil and senior Jordan Skilken. O'Neil placed ninth with 524.60 points, while Skilken took 11th with 511.05 points.
On the men's side, Andrew Harness took eighth on the platform with 664.30 points, highlighted by 63-point second-round dive on a forward 3 1/2 somersault pike followed by a reverse 2 1/2 somersault tuck in the third round that netted 71.40 points.
The USA Diving Winter National Championships conclude on Sunday with the women's 10-meter platform and the men's 1-meter springboard. Skilken, Janie Boyle and Sarah Carruthers are slated to dive for the women and Harness, Manuel Borowski, Noah Duperre, Nick Harris and Brendan McCourt are schedule to compete for the men.
Competition begins at 9 a.m. CT, with finals set to start at 3 p.m. CT.
