Allen-Taylor posts a game-high 14 points as the Longhorns snap a three-game skid
LUBBOCK, Texas — Joanne Allen-Taylor registered a team-high 14 points Wednesday evening as No. 16/17 Texas captured a hard-fought 61-56 Big 12 Conference road victory over Texas Tech inside the Lady Raiders' United Supermarkets Arena.
With the win, the Longhorns snap a three-game skid and improve to 16-6 overall on the season with a 6-5 mark in Big 12 competition. Tech drops to 9-13, 2-9.
Trailing 22-18 after the first quarter of action, Texas outscored the Lady Raiders 14-9 in the second quarter to take a 32-31 lead into the half.
Both teams traded blows in the second half and Tech took a 42-40 lead with 8:16 to play. With the help of key turnovers and timely buckets, the Longhorns outscored the Lady Raiders 21-14 down the stretch to seal the victory.
Allen-Taylor finished 2-of-5 from behind the arc in the contest and was a perfect 4-of-4 at the charity stripe. Both of her triples came in the fourth quarter.
Audrey Warren tallied 12 points while Lauren Ebo, Rori Harmon and Latasha Lattimore finished with eight points, respectively. Lattimore led the way on the glass with nine rebounds while Harmon dished out a team-high five assists.
Sophomore guard Shay Holle made her first career start and finished with four points, a pair of rebounds and a block in 13 minutes on the floor.
Texas forced 18 Lady Raiders turnovers in the game, which led to 23 points, and committed 14 turnovers on the other end. Rebounds were even at 35 apiece.
The Longhorns finished the game shooting 37.1 percent (23-of-62) from the field and shot a season-best 92.3 percent (12-of-13) from the free throw line.
Texas Tech finished the game shooting 41.8 precent (23-of-55) from the field with a 16.7 percent (2-of-12) mark from three-point range.
The Lady Raiders were led offensively by Vivian Gray who finished with 20 points. Bryn Gerlich added 11 points.
Taylah Thomas led the team on the glass with 10 rebounds to go along eight points offensively.
Texas is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 12, as they play host to No. 12/15 Oklahoma inside the Frank Erwin Center. Tip is slated for 7:00 p.m. CT and will air nationally on Longhorn Network.
