IRVING, Texas — A quartet of University of Texas Men's Basketball players have earned spots on the 2022 Academic All-Big 12 Men's Basketball Team, the league office announced Tuesday. Seniors Andrew Jones and Courtney Ramey along with junior Brock Cunningham were named to the First Team, while senior Jase Febres was selected to the Second Team.
Cunningham earned his third career selection to the academic all-league team, as he also earned second-team mention in 2020 and 2021. Febres, Jones and Ramey each claimed their second career selections to the squad, as all three were first-team honorees last season.
First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second-team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. To qualify for the team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher, either cumulative or the two previous semesters, and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and met all the other criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
No. 20/22 Texas (19-8, 8-6 Big 12) returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 23 with a home game against TCU. Tip is set for 6 p.m. Central at the Frank Erwin Center, and the game will be televised nationally by ESPN2.
