AUSTIN, Texas — Rowan Brumbaugh has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball next season at The University of Texas, head coach Chris Beard announced Wednesday. Brumbaugh will join Dillon Mitchell and Arterio Morris in the Longhorns' freshman class for the upcoming 2022-23 season.
The three-man class is currently ranked No. 8 nationally by Rivals and No. 11 by 247 Sports Composite.
Brumbaugh (6-4, 185), a point guard from Washington, D.C., who played his senior year at Northfield Mount Hermon School (Gill, Mass.) under coach John Carroll, is ranked as the No. 75 prospect in the nation by Rivals and No. 79 by 247 Sports Composite. He was tabbed the No. 2 player in the class of 2022 in the state of Massachusetts and the No. 3 player in the New England area by the New England Recruiting Report.
In his senior season, Brumbaugh paced Northfield Mount Hermon to a 33-6 overall record and an appearance in the NEPSAC (New England Preparatory School Athletic Council) AAA championship game. Northfield Mount Hermon advanced to the title game of the 2022 National Prep Championship before falling to Putnam Science Academy (Conn.) on March 11.
A second-team All-NEPSAC AAA selection, Brumbaugh averaged 13.1 points, 4.7 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game while seeing action in 33 contests during his senior year. Northfield Mount Hermon was ranked No. 1 in the nation among prep teams for the first two-and-a-half months of the season before finishing the year at No. 3.
"Rowan Brumbaugh is a throwback," said Jeff Goodman, national basketball analyst at Stadium. "He's a true point guard who just knows how to run a team and make his teammates better. Rowan can also score when necessary, but he's an extension of the coach on the court and possesses and extremely high basketball IQ."
Brumbaugh recently participated in the All-Academic Basketball All-America Game in New Orleans on April 1 and earned co-Most Valuable Player honors. The event is a celebration of student-athlete accomplishments on the court, in the classroom and as a part of their community. It is designed as a platform to showcase future industry leaders as they transition from the grassroots to collegiate ranks while also providing opportunities with Fortune 500 level companies. Two teams comprised of 12 high-achieving student-athletes who are bound to play at prestigious institutions all across the country at multiple levels competed on the national stage during NCAA Final Four weekend.
