CHICAGO — University of Texas Men's Basketball signee Dillon Mitchell recorded 18 points to lead Team Air to a 118-109 win over Team Flight on Friday night at Chicago's Hope Academy. Mitchell was selected as the Most Valuable Player for Team Air.
Mitchell became the 16th player in UT program history to play in the Jordan Brand Classic and first since Mohamed Bamba and Matt Coleman III in 2017. The event had been canceled each of the previous two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mitchell, a forward from Tampa, Fla., recently completed his senior season at Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.) under coach Kevin Boyle. He is currently ranked as the No. 7 prospect in the nation by ESPN and No. 11 by Rivals.
A Jersey Mike's Naismith National High School All-America Boys' Second Team and Sports Illustrated's All-America Second Team selection, Mitchell averaged 12.3 points, 10 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and one steals during his senior year at Montverde. In the GEICO Nationals title game, he posted 17 points, 12 rebounds and three steals to lead Montverde to the win.

At the McDonald's All-American Game on March 29, he started and posted nine points, four boards and two steals for the winning East team. Mitchell also was a member of the USA Nike Hoop Summit Team that defeated the World Select Team 102-80 in the 23rd Nike Hoop Summit on April 8. He posted game highs of eight rebounds and four assists while adding six points in 24 minutes.
