Beard set for induction into Fort Scott Community College Athletics Hall of Fame

Men's Basketball coach recognized for his success at his first collegiate head coaching job.
FORT SCOTT, Kan. — University of Texas Men's Basketball head coach Chris Beard will be inducted into the Fort Scott Community College Athletics Hall of Fame this weekend. Beard is joined in the Class of 2022 by Taylyn Barkley (Volleyball), Dave LaRoche (Baseball) and Jolee Sharp (Women's Basketball).
The dinner and Hall of Fame celebration is set for 5:30 p.m. Central on Saturday, May 7.
Beard spent one season as head coach at Fort Scott in 1999-2000. During the year, he led the Greyhounds to a 19-12 record and a NJCAA Division I Regional appearance.
In his 12 seasons as a collegiate head coach, Beard has compiled a 274-115 (.704) record. He has guided seven total programs during his coaching career, serving as head coach at Fort Scott Community College (1999-2000), Seminole State College (2000-01), McMurry University (2012-13), Angelo State University (2013-15), the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (2015-16), Texas Tech University (2016-21) and The University of Texas (2021-present).
In his first year with the Longhorns, Beard guided Texas to a 22-12 overall record (10-8 Big 12 Conference, fourth place) and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Second Round. The 22 wins marked the highest number of victories in a season since 2013-14, and Beard led Texas to its first NCAA Tournament win since 2014. The Longhorns ranked No. 25 in the final Associated Press poll.
