Texas Athletics - 2022 Juneteenth Parade
6/18/2022
Texas Athletics took part in the 2022 Historical Juneteenth Street Parade on Saturday morning. Both athletes and staff members participated in the event. Below are pictures and social posts from a great morning in Austin!
The Juneteenth Parade is a celebration that I look forward to being a part of every year! It’s a special time in which we get to connect directly with the black community in Austin to create meaningful relationships, continue building friendships, and making impactful memories together. Juneteenth highlights the successful fight that finally gave freedom to black people in our country and gives us the opportunity to reflect on our history and uncover ways we can still work to make positive changes within our communities. It is so special to get to celebrate such a hard-fought accomplishment for black people alongside the Austin community, the Texas Longhorn family, and my teammates. I am so grateful to be a part of such a diverse community in Austin who recognizes and honors Juneteenth and for the love and unity we experience every year!”Logan Eggleston, Texas Volleyball
Being able to experience and be apart of the Juneteenth parade was a very honorable moment for me. I walked in solidarity for those that relentlessly paved the way before me and for those that are soon to follow after me. In a world corrupted with hate, division, and bigotry, the Juneteenth parade showed me just how strong, loving, and powerful my community is. I couldn’t be more grateful for the immense impact that Juneteenth and this parade had on Austin, Texas.Cameron Brooks, Texas Women's Soccer
The Juneteenth Parade means a lot to me and walking with our community is really important for all of us. I walk for those who walked off of those ships. I walk for those who walked the streets of Selma. I walk for those who lost their life to police brutality! I walk because my ancestors endured a lot of pain for me to live this life.DeMarvion Overshown, Texas Football
Juneteenth means a lot to me because it’s a day where my community can come together and celebrate the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. It’s a day to remember and be grateful because we would not be where we are today without being reminded of our history.Aaliyah Moore, Women's Basketball

The Central Texas Juneteenth Parade is a tradition I’ve really enjoyed having the opportunity to participate in since I’ve been at UT. It’s a great introduction to the community, testament to the rich history of the Black Community in Austin, and reminder to our team that there’s work to be done that they can be a part of. Seeing and engaging in the history of the event hopefully inspires our players to continue to make a difference. It’s great to see their faces when they realize how much the community cares about them, they can’t resist when little kids ask for candy and notice all the Longhorn salutes from the elderly as they walk by. It connects them to another diverse piece of Austin that needs to be recognized and celebrated.Kevin Washington, Director of Player Development for Football

It was an honor and a privilege to represent Texas Athletics at the Juneteenth Parade. The enthusiasm and energy by everyone involved was electric, and the connection with the community was truly moving. It was a terrific celebration in every way. I’m particularly grateful that my three kids were included, as well. They certainly have a deeper appreciation of the importance of this day, and we look forward to celebrating Juneteenth in the years ahead.Dave O'Neill, Texas Head Rowing Coach
