Texas Rowing established a program record with 15 honorees.
AUSTIN, Texas – Fifteen members of Texas Rowing were named 2022 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Scholar Athletes, the organization announced on Friday. The 15 honorees established a new program record, topping the total of 13 recognized in 2021.
To qualify for the honor, student-athletes must maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA for their career, compete in at least 75% of their team's spring regattas this season and be in their sophomore, junior or senior seasons of eligibility to earn National Scholar-Athlete recognition.
The NCAA national champions had a stellar year on the water and in the classroom. In addition to the program-record 15 CRCA National Scholar Athletes, UT equaled a program best with 36 Academic All-Big 12 honorees. Additionally, Katelyn Bouthillette and Katie Casey were named recipients of the 12th annual Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award, the Big 12 Conference's highest academic honor, and Kaitlin Knifton was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team.
In 2022, the Longhorns won a second consecutive national championship and seventh-straight Big 12 Conference title. The Texas First Varsity Eight also claimed the national crown for the second year in a row and finishing in the top-three for the fourth consecutive national regatta.
