08.05.2022 | Women's Basketball
Aaliyah Moore and Joanne Allen-Taylor are among 11 invitees in Miami from Aug. 5-8.
MIAMI, Fla. — Rising sophomore Aaliyah Moore and former Longhorn Joanne Allen-Taylor are two of the 11 participants invited to the 2022 USA Basketball 3x3 Women's U23 National Team trials from Aug. 5-8. Following training camp, six athletes will be selected to the team which will compete in the fifth edition of the FIBA 3x3 Nations League, starting play within the Americas conference on Aug. 13-19 in Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Moore was previously a member of USA's gold-medal winning team at the 2019 U16 Americas Championship. During her freshman season in 2021-22, she played in 28 games (nine starts) and averaged 6.0 points and 3.1 rebounds per contest while ranking second on the squad in field goal percentage (.513).
After recovering from an early-season injury, Moore emerged as a dominant post presence for the Longhorns and helped lead Texas to the Big 12 Tournament championship and a run to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight. She posted 12 points and five rebounds in the Big 12 championship game win against Baylor (March 13) and added a double-double with 18 points and 10 boards during the NCAA Round of 64 victory over Fairfield (March 18). Moore also registered a season-high 21 points in the NCAA Round of 32 win against Utah (March 20).
Allen-Taylor is a current member of USA Basketball's 3x3 Women's Series team which competes on select stops on the FIBA 3x3 Women's Series. A four-year letterwinner (2019-22) who earned her bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering this past May, she claimed All-Big 12 Second-Team honors as a senior in 2021-22 and All-Big 12 honorable mention accolades as a junior in 2020-21 while leading the Longhorns to the NCAA Elite Eight in back-to-back years. Allen-Taylor also was the 2020-21 Big 12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year for Women's Basketball.
Launched in 2017, the FIBA 3x3 Nations League is a 3x3 national team competition for men and women under the age of 23. It offers an opportunity for future talents to hone their skills in preparation for the open category (FIBA 3x3 World Cup, Olympic Games, etc.).
