Women’s Tennis’ Rapolu wins singles title at ITA Texas Regionals

FORT WORTH, Texas — University of Texas Women's Tennis junior Malaika Rapolu posted a 6-4, 6-3 victory over teammate and graduate Marlee Zein in the singles main draw championship match on Monday morning in the ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) Texas Regionals at the Friedman Tennis Center on the campus of TCU. The Longhorns dominated the singles draw in the tournament, as three Texas players – Rapolu, Zein and sophomore Vivian Ovrootsky – advanced to the semifinals.
The third seed in the 64-player singles draw, Rapolu won six consecutive matches over a span of four days en route to earning the title. She won five of her six matches in straight sets, as she was only pushed to a third set in her semifinal victory over SMU's Hadley Doyle on Sunday afternoon.
