After leading the Big 12 Conference in four offensive categories last week, Lexi Missimo earns fourth career Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honor
AUSTIN, Texas – On the heels of another historic week on the pitch, Texas' Lexi Missimo has been selected as the Big 12 Conference's Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday morning. The recognition is Missimo's third this season and fourth for her three-year career.
In two Texas victories last week, Missimo led the Big 12 in points (6), points per game (3.00), goals (3) and goals per game (1.50).
Missimo, who leads all NCAA Division I women's soccer with 50 total points on the season, recorded her fourth brace of the season in the Longhorns' 3-1 win at UCF on Thursday, Oct. 5. Each goal against the Golden Knights provided a historic moment for the Southlake native as the first goal made her the first 15-goal, 15-assist student-athlete in program history. The second pushed the midfielder passed Kelly Wilson's program single-season point total.
The Longhorns' win in Orlando marked the first loss at home for UCF since Sept. 4, 2022, a span of 397 days.
Three days later, Missimo converted her fifth penalty kick opportunity on the season when she pushed Texas ahead of Iowa State with a second-half score. With that score against the Cyclones, Missimo tied Trinity Byars' single-season program goals record with 17.
With Wednesday's honor Missimo, who will enter Texas' next match with 17 goals and 16 assists on the season, now joins Cyera Hintzen (Sept. 19, Sept. 26, Oct. 3, 2017) and Trinity Byars (Sept. 20, Sept. 27, Oct. 11, 2022) as the only student-athletes in program history to earn the league's weekly top offensive honor three separate times during one season. Missimo was also named the Big 12's Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 6 and Sept. 13, 2023.
Of the eight weekly offensive conference honors, a Texas student-athlete has been selected as one on five different occasions: Trinity Byars (Aug. 23, Oct. 4), Lexi Missimo (Sept. 6, Sept. 13, Oct. 4). No other program in the league has more than two (Texas Tech). The Longhorns have had at least one student-athlete selected as one of the conference's four (Offensive, Defensive, Goalkeeper, Freshman) weekly honors in six of the eight weeks.
