A sextet of Longhorn student-athletes earn midseason honors from soccer publication
AUSTIN, Texas – With two regular season matches remaining, six different Texas women's soccer student-athlete have been recognized by the Top Drawer Soccer publication for their on-the-pitch contributions to the Longhorns' success this season.
In the Women's Midseason Top 100 rankings, junior midfielder Lexi Missimo was ranked No. 1 while having "one of the best individual seasons in NCAA history," according to the publication. The Southlake native has scored 17 goals — tied for the program's single-season mark — and been credited with 16 assists, a new program single-season record.
Five places down from Missimo is Trinity Byars at the No. 6 spot. The Richardson native — like Missimo — has recorded a double-double season this season with 13 goals and 10 assists for 36 points. The June Shelton School product also set the program's career hat trick record after recording her second this season against UTRGV on Aug. 31.
Jilly Shimkin, in her second season on the Forty Acres, was ranked 86th. The Rockville Centre, N.Y., native is currently third on the team with 13 points — three goals, seven assists — while totaling 1,124 minutes throughout 16 starts this season. She had a large contributor in the Longhorns' conference-opening win at Baylor on Sept. 14 as the junior was credited with her second 2-assist match on the season.
The trio of Missimo, Byars and Shimkin were three of the 12 representatives from the Big 12 Conference on the list.
Two days prior to the upperclassmen's recognition on Friday, Texas' three freshmen student-athletes were also honored by the publication in its Women's Midseason Top 100 Freshman rankings.
Carly Montgomery earned the highest ranking among the Longhorn freshmen student-athletes as the Charlotte native was selected 30th. She has appeared in all 16 matches this season, while drawing the starting assignment over the last 15 consecutive. She's totaled the third-most minutes played by a Longhorn (1,309) and has scored a goal and been credited with an assist.
Arianna Brothers (#92) and Avery Clark (#96) round out the honors from Top Drawer Soccer. The duo has combined for 12 points with Clark leading the way with 10 courtesy of three goals and four assists. Clark, who has appeared in all 16 matches so far this season, has totaled 712 minutes played at the forward position, while Brothers has played 644 throughout 15 matches at the midfield spot.
