Texas’ Lexi Missimo picks up second weekly honor in less than six hours
AUSTIN, Texas – For the second time this season, Texas' junior midfielder Lexi Missimo was selected as the United Soccer Coaches Player of the Week, the organization announced Wednesday afternoon. This comes on the heels of being selected as the Big 12's Co-Offensive Player of the Week earlier in the day.
Missimo becomes the first Longhorn women's soccer student-athlete to earn the recognition multiple times (Sept. 13, Oct. 18, 2023) during the same season. Trinity Byars (Oct. 12, 2022) is the only other student-athlete in program history to earn the weekly recognition by the organization.
In two matches last week, Missimo led the Big 12 Conference in points (6) and points per match (3.00), while tying for the lead in goals (2), goals per match (1.00), assists (2) and assists per match (1.00).
In Texas' 6-1 win at Houston on Sunday, Oct. 15, Missimo was credited with her team-leading fifth brace — two-goal performance — on the season. She went on to be credited with her team-leading third two-assist outing after picking up assists on Jilly Shimkin and Byars' second-half goals — 45 seconds apart — against the Cougars.
Missimo has now accounted for seven of the program's 11 multiple goal matches this season: Missimo (7), Byars (4). She has also been credited with five of the team's nine multiple assist matches in 2023: Missimo (5), Shimkin (2), Byars (1) and Holly Ward (1).
Missimo will enter Monday night's match as the nation's leader in total assists (18), total points (56), assists per match (1.06), match-winning goals (6), points per match (3.29), shots per match (5.94) and shots on goal per match (3.29). With a goal and two more assists, she would become the first Division I women's soccer student-athlete to achieve a 20-goal, 20-assist season since 2019.
