Adeleke becomes 11th Longhorn female to be named to the watch list.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 1 Texas women's track sprinters Rhasidat Adeleke and Julien Alfred were among the 10 athletes named to The Bowerman watch list for the month of March.
Alfred remained on the list for the third time this season after winning the sprints double at the Big 12 Indoor Championships and breaking her collegiate record in the 60m dash for the third time this season. Alfred's winning time of 6.97 seconds in the 60m ranks as the fastest time ever by a collegian and becomes the only female collegiate sprinter to break the sub-7 second barrier.
Alfred also became the youngest sprinter ever to run under seven seconds and heads into the NCAA Indoor Championships with the seven fastest times ever ran in the 60m dash in college. The St. Lucia native also set the NCAA-leading time in the 200m dash with her time of 22.26, breaking the Texas program record (22.40) set by Bianca Knight in 2008.
Adeleke makes her first appearance on The Bowerman Watch List after breaking the 400m collegiate record at the Big 12 Championships with a time of 50.33. The time was later broken by Talitha Diggs (50.14) of Florida at the SEC Championships, but ranks as fastest time in program history. Along with her blazing 400m time, Adeleke also holds the third-fastest collegiate time recorded in the 200m at 22.52.
Both Adeleke and Alfred will compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 10-11 back in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the Albuquerque Convention Center. Alfred is entered to run both the 60m and the 200m along with the third leg of the 4x400 relay, while Adeleke will compete in the 400m and run the second leg of the 4x400 relay.
The Ireland native becomes the 11th female Longhorn to be named to The Bowerman Watch List and seventh in the last five years. Only Oregon (17) and Texas A&M (15) have had more women named to the watch list.
