Women's Swimming and Diving's Jacoby wins 100-yard breaststroke title at NCAA Championships

Texas is in second following day three of the national championship meet.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Texas Women's Swimming and Diving freshman Lydia Jacoby won the national title in the 100-yard breaststroke to highlight day three of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center. Texas is in second place with 272.5 points through the first three days of competition. Virginia is first with 374.5 points and Stanford sits in third with 239 points, while Louisville (191.5) and NC State (190) round out the top five.
Jacoby is the first Longhorn to win a national title since Murphy Bromberg won on platform in 2019 and the first Texas swimmer to win gold at the national meet since 2013, when Laura Sogar won the 200-yard breaststroke.

Swimming at her first NCAA Championship, Jacoby claimed her first national crown in comeback fashion, bursting past teammate Anna Elendt and Tennessee's Mona McSharry in the final five yards to win with a personal-best time of 57.03. Sitting in third at the midway point and through the final turn, Jacoby swam 30.10 over the second half of the race to overtake McSharry (57.16) and Elendt (57.29), who placed second and third, respectively. Jacoby's mark of 57.03 makes her the seventh-fastest performer in the event all time and is the second-best time in program history behind Elendt's record of 56.88.
Texas' evening session began with Emma Sticklen earning All-American honors in the 100 fly, tying for fifth with a time of 50.15. UT's record holder in the event with a time of 49.79, Sticklen now claims four of the top-five 100 fly times in program history, including a swim of 50.00 in the prelims.
Kelly Pash followed with an 11th-place performance in the 200 free, posting a time of 1:43.61 to collect her second Honorable Mention All-America honor of the meet.
Olivia Bray posted another stellar outing for the Longhorns, swimming a 100 back personal-best of 50.61 to fiish fifth and earn her second individual All-America honor of the meet. Bray's time is the second-fastest in program history, trailing only Claire Adams' mark of 50.51.
The Longhorns closed out the session with a record-setting performance in the 400 medley relay. Bray, Sticken, Jacoby and Pash won bronze with a UT-record time of 3:25.18, besting the time of 3:25.29 the quartet established in January against NC State.

On the boards, Hailey Hernandez won the 3-meter consolation final with 349.25 points, her second point-scoring performance of the meet following Thursday's fourth place showing on 1-meter.
The NCAA Championships will conclude on Saturday, March 18 at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center
Saturday's action will feature competition in the 1,650-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly, platform diving and the 400-yard freestyle relay. Prelims start at 9 a.m. CT with the finals sessions scheduled to get underway each day at 5 p.m. CT. All prelim and finals sessions will be streamed live on ESPN+.
