Six Longhorns named to Academic All-Big 12 Men’s Basketball Team

Bishop, Bott, Cunningham, Disu and Perryman earn first-team honors, while Allen claims second-team mention.
IRVING, Texas — A total of six University of Texas Men's Basketball players have earned spots on the 2023 Academic All-Big 12 Men's Basketball Team, the league office announced Wednesday. Super senior Christian Bishop, redshirt freshman Cole Bott, graduate Brock Cunningham, senior Dylan Disu and redshirt freshman Gavin Perryman were named to the First Team, while super senior Timmy Allen was selected to the Second Team.
Cunningham earned his fourth career selection to the academic all-league team, as he also earned first-team honors in 2022 and second-team mention in 2020 and 2021. Bishop, Bott, Disu, Perryman and Allen each claimed their first career selections to the squad in their respective first year of eligibility for the honor.
First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second-team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. To qualify for the team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher, either cumulative or the two previous semesters, and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and met all the other criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
