Smith becomes third Longhorn to be named to watch list this season
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 1 Texas women's track and field landed two women on the sixth update on The Bowerman Watch List on Wednesday.
Julien Alfred has been named to all seven watch list updates, including the preseason watch list. Alfred returns to the list after being named the Big 12 Women's Outdoor High Performer after scoring 22.5 points for the Longhorns. The 11-time All American ran the first leg of the 4x100 relay that broke its own collegiate record with a winning time of 41.89 and swept the sprints double in the 100m (10.84) and the 200m (22.28).
Alfred is one of just four women to appear on every watch list this season, joining Jasmine Moore of Florida, Jade van Klinken of Oregon and Britton Wilson of Arkansas.
Ackelia Smith made her first ever appearance to the watch list after a standout weekend at the conference meet. She became just the second collegian to ever jump over seven meters in the long jump joining Texas legend Tara Davis as the only two to do it.
Smith's mark of 7.08m (23-2.75) earned her the Big 12 long jump title. She later added a triple jump title to her name with a jump of 13.75m (45-1.50).
Smith is the third Longhorn to be named to the watch list this season, joining Alfred and Rhasidat Adeleke who is receiving votes on this ballot.
