MONTREAL – Texas diver Hailey Hernandez advanced to the 3-meter springboard final at the World Aquatics Diving World Cup after registering the seventh-highest preliminary round score on Saturday at Stade Olympique. The 3-meter final will take place on Sunday at 1:40 p.m. CT.
Hernandez totaled 306.20 points, placing third in her heat and seventh overall with the top-14 divers advancing to the final. After posting back-to-back 63-point scores on her third and fourth dives, the rising junior's prelim session was highlighted by her fifth and final dive, a forward 2½ somersaults with one twist pike that netted her 69 points.
The Montreal competition is the second of three for the Diving World Cup, a new competition system in place for 2023 and 2024. The World Cup will have three stops each year, with qualification for the first two meets based on a score standard. Results from the first two World Cup meets will determine invitations to the third stop, the World Aquatics Diving World Cup Super Final. The 2023 Super Final will take place in Berlin, Germany from Aug. 4-6.
Tomorrow's final will stream live on the World Aquatics YouTube page.
