Kate Knifton earned first-team accolades and Anna Jensen received second-team distinction for the Academic All-America Women’s At-Large teams.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Rowing's Kate Knifton and Anna Jensen were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America Women's At-Large teams, the organization announced on Thursday. Knifton earned first-team accolades and Jensen was named to the third team in recognition of their performances on the water and in the classroom.
Knifton is the first Texas rower to earn first-team Academic All-America honors, while the two selections are the most in a single year in program history. The duo joins Jessica Glennie, a 2015 third-team honoree, among Texas rowers to earn Academic All-America distinction.
Texas was the only Division I Rowing program to have a student-athlete named to the first team and the only program to have more than one rower among the first, second and third teams.
With Knifton and Jensen rowing in the I Eight, Texas placed fourth at this year's national championships. Both were members of Texas' back-to-back national championship teams in 2021 and 2022, also winning NCAA titles as part of the First Eight in each of those seasons.
Knifton carried a 4.0 grade point average as a graduate student, receiving her graduate certificate in sports communication. The 2023 Big 12 Rower of the Year, she is a two-time first-team All-American, three-time All-Big 12 selection and was named the 2022 USRowing U23 Co-Female Athlete of the Year. The Austin native was a 2022 Academic All-District honoree and is a two-time CRCA National Scholar Athlete and three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection.
Jensen sports a 3.8151 GPA as a sport management major. The junior from Midland, Mich. is a two-time All-Big 12 selection, was a 2022 Pockock First-Team All-American and the 2021 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year. In 2022, Jensen earned CRCA National Scholar Athlete and first-team Academic All-Big 12 accolades. She is a three-time Big 12 Conference champion and was named to the 2020-21 Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at their current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50-percent of the team's games. No student-athlete is eligible until they have completed one full calendar year at their current institution and been on a college roster in that sport for two years.
Knifton is set to take part in the USRowing Olympic Events Selection Camp in West Windsor, N.J. from June 26-July 17 at Mercer Lake. Athletes selected through the camp will represent the United States at the 2023 World Rowing Championships, September 3-10 in Belgrade, Serbia.
Jensen will compete with the Longhorns at the prestigious Henley Royal Regatta on the River Thames in Henley-on-Thames, England beginning on Tuesday, June 26. She will race in the Texas I Eight in the Remenham Challenge Cup.
