Foster wins third gold medal at 2023 Phillips 66 National Championships

Carson Foster closed out the United States National Championships with gold in the 200-meter individual medley.
INDIANAPOLIS – Texas Swimming's Carson Foster won his third gold medal of the week at the United States Phillips 66 National Championships on Saturday with a victory in the 200-meter individual medley at the Indiana University Natatorium.
Foster previously captured the 200-meter butterfly and 400-meter individual medley titles to secure three individual events on the United States roster for the 2023 World Aquatics Championships. The gold closed Texas' medal count at 11 during the five days of competition, including a gold each day from the men's squad.
Texas featured a pair of swimmers in the 200m IM championship final, with Texas Ex joining Foster in the championship heat. Foster was in control throughout the race, winning with a time of 1:56.19, the fourth-fastest in the world this year. Licon placed seventh with a swim of 1:59.37, while Shaine Casas, who trains in Austin with legendary Texas Men's head coach Eddie Reese, took second in 1:57.47. Incoming Longhorn Nate Germonprez finished third in the consolation final with a time of 2:00.24 and Spencer Aurnou-Rhees placed sixth in the C Final in 2:03.46.
The women's 1500-meter freestyle kicked off the evening's finals session with Erica Sullivan (16:16.94) taking fourth in the heat and overall and incoming Longhorn Jillian Cox (16:18.40) finishing fifth overall after winning heat five.
In the men's 800-meter freestyle, David Johnston missed the podium by less than a second, placing fifth in 7:51.70, while Alec Enyeart took seventh with a swim of 7:58.14.
Drew Kibler took eighth in the men's 50-meter freestyle, touching the wall in 22.12.
Grace Cooper took second in the women's 50m free consolation final, establishing a Texas program record with a swim of 24.90. Future Longhorn Erin Gemmell took fourth in the C Final in 25.29.
The 2023 World Aquatics Championships will take place July 14-30 in Fukuoka, Japan.
