Men’s Tennis signs Jonah Braswell

Jonah Braswell, a transfer from Florida who was second-team All-SEC and a member of the SEC All-Freshman Team last year, will join the Longhorns as a sophomore for the 2023-24 season.
Austin, Texas – Texas Men's Tennis has signed Jonah Braswell to an Athletic Scholarship Agreement (ASA), head coach Bruce Berque announced Thursday. A transfer from Florida who was second-team All-SEC and a member of the SEC All-Freshman Team last year, Braswell will join the Longhorns this fall as a sophomore with three years of eligibility remaining. He is also the brother of current Longhorn Micah Braswell.
"I'm thrilled that Jonah will be joining us on the 40 acres," Berque said. "He had an exceptional freshman season for Florida, and I expect him to be one of the cornerstones of our program for the foreseeable future. Micah and Jonah are extremely close, and I'm happy for them to be able to share the experience of competing together as Longhorns. The coming season will provide them with memories they will cherish for the rest of their lives, and we are all happy to be part of their journey."

Last season, Braswell posted a 29-12 overall singles record, including a 14-9 mark in dual match play, primarily at No. 3 where he was 10-7, while also going 4-2 at No. 4. His 29 overall wins and 14 dual match victories were both team highs, while his seven SEC wins were tied for the team lead. Ranking as high as No. 48 in singles during the season, Braswell finished No. 86. Eight of his wins came against ranked opponents with five of those in the top 70. During the fall, he went 15-3, the most fall singles wins by a freshman at UF in at least 30 years, capped by reaching the round of 32 at the ITA All-American Championships.
In doubles, Braswell partnered with Lukas Greif in all 24 of his matches, combining for a 16-8 overall record, including a 12-6 mark in dual matches, all of which came at No. 3 where they led the team with eight clinches. The duo reached a season high of a tie for No. 43 in the doubles rankings during the fall. In addition to his on-court accomplishments, Braswell earned a spot on the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll.
Prior to Florida, Braswell was one of the top prep standouts in the country, ranking as high as No. 12 in the class of 2022 by TennisRecruiting.net coming out of IMG Academy. He played in the juniors tournaments of the French Open, Wimbledon and the U.S. Open, and among his juniors achievements, he was the 2020 Boys 16 Orange Bowl singles champion and a 2022 Boys 18 Eddie Herr singles finalist.
Natives of Sarasota, Fla., Jonah and Micah's father, Ty, played college tennis at Florida State. He was later an assistant coach there from 2000-04 and has been Director of Tennis at Sarasota's Laurel Oak Country Club since 2004.
