Foster places sixth in 200m fly at World Aquatics Championships

Carson Foster registered his second top-six performance of the meet and also qualified for 200-meter IM final.
FUKUOKA, Japan – Texas Swimming and Diving's Carson Foster placed sixth in the men's 200-meter butterfly for the United States at the World Aquatics Championships on Wednesday at the Marine Messe Fukuoka.
Foster took sixth in the 200m fly with a time of 1:54.74. The gold went to Leon Marchand of France, who touched the wall in 1:52.43, followed by Poland's Krzysztof Chmielewski (1:53.62) and Tomoru Honda (1:53.66) of Japan.
Later in the session, Foster qualified for the 200-meter individual medley final, posting the third-fastest time in the semifinals with a mark of 1:56.55. He will race in the championship final on Thursday, July 27 at 7:03 a.m. CT.
Shaine Casas, who trains in Austin with Texas Men's Swimming & Diving head coach Eddie Reese, also qualified for final of the 200m IM, swimming 1:57.23 to earn a spot in the final.
On the high dive, Matt Cooper will compete for the United States in the semifinal round on Wednesday, July 26 at 10 p.m. CT.
Swimming at the World Aquatics Championships continues Wednesday evening at 8:30 p.m. CT. The session will feature preliminary heats for the women's 100-meter freestyle, men's 200-meter backstroke, women's and men's 200-meter breaststroke and women's 4x200m freestyle relay.
Texas will be represented by Anna Elendt (Germany) in the women's 200m breast, racing in heat three at 9:16 p.m. CT. In the men's 200m breast, Caspar Corbeau (Netherlands) will race in heat three at 9:33 p.m. CT and Brayden Taivassalo (Canada) in heat four at 9:36 p.m. CT. The preliminary rounds and finals are broadcast live on Peacock.
