Men's Swimming & Diving's Team White edges Orange in Sam Kendricks Memorial Classic

White squad wins 139-134 in opening competition of the season.
AUSTIN, Texas – The white team edged out the orange team at the Sam Kendrick's Memorial Orange and White Invitational, 139-134, on Friday night at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
The action got started with sophomore Nick Harris winning the 1-meter diving competition for team White with his score of 319 points. Harris was the lone competitor to crack 300 points, while Noah Duperre scored 295.20 for the orange team in second.
Duperre and Harris would flip flop positions in the 3-meter with Duperre pulling away with the win with his total of 333.50 points, while Harris scored 326.40.
Back in the pool, Chris O'Connor won his first of two events for the white team in the 100-yard backstroke with his time of 47.88, scoring nine points for the white team. Alex Enyeart was second for the white team adding four points. O'Connor later added a win in the 200 back with his time of 1:45.66, a second faster that second-place.
The 100-yard breaststroke was won by freshman Will Scholtz with his time of 53.37, leading the white team to nine more team points, edging three orange team members of Nate Germonprez (53,76), Brayden Tavivassalo (53.82), Alex Turney (55.01) and teammate Peter Paulus (55.34).
Cole Crane took home his first win of the night in the 100-yard butterfly, narrowly edging out Holden Smith to add nine more team points for White. Enyeart returned to the pool to take the longest event of the night in the 1000-yard freestyle with his time of 9:01.91. His time was more than 12 seconds faster than second-place.
Coby Carrozza defeated Luke Hobson in the 200-yard free with his time of 1:33.60 and later went on to win the 100-yard free at 43.99 to give the orange team 18 points. Freshman Camden Taylor outstretched Kobe Ndebele for first in the 50-yard free with a time of 20.39 to Ndebele's time of 20.42.
The 200-yard IM was controlled by team orange with Germonprez winning the race of 1:46.89, while Spencer Aurnou-Rhees finishing second at 1:47.69. Crane took his second win of the night in the 200-yard butterfly with an impressive time of 1:46.05.
Luke Hobson swam six seconds faster than Enyeart in the 500-yard free for his first win of the night, swimming it in 4:20.33. Enyeart finished at 4:26.70.
Taivassalo won the final individual race of the night in the 200-yard breaststroke at 1:57.34, edging out Scholtz for second at 1:57.74.
Team Orange took the 200-free relay from Taylor, Germonprez, Ethan Doehler and Smith with their time of 1:20.47. Team White of Peter Paulus, Hobson, Ndebele, and Crane finished at 1:20.50.
The Longhorns return to the pool on Oct. 6-7 when they travel to Dallas to take on SMU.
