Graduate forward averaged 27.5 points per game in UT’s two contests last week.
IRVING, Texas — University of Texas graduate forward Dylan Disu has been named the Big 12 Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. This marks Disu's first career weekly league honor.
In UT's two contests last week, Disu averaged 27.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocks in 28.8 minutes per game. He converted 20-of-35 (.571) from the floor, including an eye-opening 10-of-16 (.625) from three-point range, and a perfect 5-of-5 free throws in the two contests.
During Tuesday's game against No. 14/14 Iowa State (Feb. 6), he registered a game-high 28 points (10-19 FG, 3-6 threes, 5-5 FT), tied his season high with 10 rebounds (four offensive) and added three steals, two blocks and two assists in 31 minutes. In Saturday's home victory over West Virginia (Feb. 10), Disu posted a game-high 27 points (10-16 FG, 7-10 threes), three assists without a turnover, two steals and one blocked shot in 26 minutes. His seven 3-pointers marked his collegiate career high.
In the first half alone during Saturday's win, Disu tallied 19 points (7-7 FG, 5-5 threes) in just 13 minutes of action. He became just the sixth UT player to record a perfect half from three-point range with a minimum of five attempts since the 1986-87 season by going 5-of-5 from beyond the arc in the opening 20 minutes. Disu also recorded UT's ninth perfect half overall from the floor (minimum of six attempts) since 1949-50 and accomplished this feat for the second time in his Texas career, as he hit 7-of-7 field goals in the first half on Saturday.
During his first 11 Big 12 Conference games this season, Disu has averaged a team-best 18.9 points and 5.3 rebounds per game with 14 blocked shots. He has converted 51.7-percent (77-149) from the floor, including an impressive 53.1-percent (26-49) mark from three-point range, in league play.
Texas (16-8, 5-6 Big 12) returns to action when it travels to face No. 5/5 Houston on Saturday, Feb. 17. Tip is scheduled for 12 p.m. Central at the Fertitta Center, and the contest will be televised nationally by CBS.
