Corbeau ties for seventh in 100m breaststroke at World Aquatics Championships

Texas Ex Caspar Corbeau is the first Longhorn to reach an individual swimming final at this year’s championships.
DOHA, Qatar – Former Longhorn swimmer Caspar Corbeau tied for seventh in the 100-meter breaststroke for the Netherlands on Monday at the World Aquatics Championships inside the Aspire Dome. Luke Hobson, swimming for the United States, advanced to the 200-meter freestyle final after stellar swims in the heats and semifinals.
Corbeau touched the wall in the 59.38 to earn the seventh-place tie in the 100m breast final. Nic Fink of the United States won gold with a time of 58.57, while Italy's Nicolo Martinenghi was second with a swim of 58.84 and Adam Peaty of Great Britain took third in 59.10.
In the 200m free, Hobson cruised through the first two rounds, posting the fifth-best swim in the heats at 1:46.54 and the fourth-fastest during the semifinals in 1:45.53. The junior will swim out of lane four in the final that will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 10:02 a.m. CT.
On the women's side, incoming Longhorns Kate Hurst and Piper Enge narrowly missed advancing through to the next round during their initial races of the championships. Hurst finished ninth in the 1500-meter freestyle semifinals with a swim of 16:17.83, while Enge tallied the 18th-best mark in the 100-meter breaststroke heats with a time of 1:08.14.
In addition to Hobson's 200m free final swim on Tuesday, Corbeau will compete in the 50-meter breaststroke, racing in heat five at 12:40 a.m. CT. Also competing on Tuesday will be Texas Ex David Johnston, who will race for the United States in heat three of the 800-meter freestyle at 1:42 a.m. CT.
