Schaefer named to Naismith Women’s Coach of the Year Late Season Watch List

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas women's basketball head coach Vic Schaefer has been named to the 2024 Werner Ladder Naismith Women's College Coach of the Year Late Season Watch List presented by AXIA Time, the Naismith Awards announced on Wednesday. Schafer is one of 15 coaches on the list.
Schaefer, the 2018 Naismith National Coach of the Year, has guided the Longhorns to a 24-3 overall record and 11-3 mark in Big 12 play. The Longhorns currently rank No. 5 in both the Associated Press and USA Today Sports Coaches Poll. Texas ranks No. 4 in the women's basketball NET Rankings.
The Longhorns have persevered through adversity this season with missing All-American point guard Rori Harmon to an ACL injury since Dec. 27. Texas has also been without First Team All-Big 12 selection DeYona Gaston for 13 games. In total Texas has had starters miss 37 games this season.
Last week Schaefer recorded his 400th career victory as a head coach in the win over Houston and recorded his 100th victory at Texas with a win over Iowa State.
Schaefer has guided his teams to 11 straight seasons of 20 or more wins. At Texas he has 20 wins over AP top-25 teams, which is tied for fifth among all active head coaches over that time. Schaefer has 19 career wins over AP-top 10 teams.
