Madison Haugen, a Georgia native, signs with Texas Longhorn women’s soccer program
AUSTIN, Texas – On Tuesday morning, The University of Texas women's soccer head coach Angela Kelly announced the addition of Madison Haugen to her Longhorn program from the upcoming 2024 campaign. Haugen comes to the Forty Acres after playing in 78 matches throughout a four-year (2020-2023) career at the University of Georgia (UGA).
Haugen, a 5-foot-6 defender out of Cumming, Ga., by way of Lambert (Ga.) High School, helped the Bulldogs to the 2023 SEC Tournament Championship with a 1-0 victory over then-No. 10 Arkansas that proceeded a Sweet Sixteen run for UGA. In the 84th minute of Georgia's third-round matchup against top-seeded Clemson, Haugen fired in a corner kick that ultimately led to the Bulldogs' lone goal of the contest seconds later.
As a junior in 2022, Haugen was named to the United Soccer Coaches (USC) All-Southeast Region Second Team after leading the Bulldogs in assists, ranking second in points, third in minutes, goals and shots on goal, while finishing fifth in shots. She was named to TopDrawer Soccer Team on the Week on Sept. 27 as was critical in Georgia's postseason success with an assist on teammate Dani Murguia's game-winning goal against Samford in the first round of the NCAA Tournament before scoring a goal against North Carolina during a second-round matchup.
With Haugen on the defensive back line for four seasons, Georgia finished seasons with a 1.33 (2020), 1.37 (2021), 0.77 (2022) and 1.04 (2023) opponent goals per match average. Throughout her four-year career in Athens, the Bulldogs finished each season with an opponent shot percentage of 0.128-or-lower.
As greatly as Haugen excelled on the pitch for the Bulldogs, she was performed as well in the classroom. Highlighted by a College Sports Communicator (CSC) Academic All-American Third Team selection in 2022, Haugen was also a two-time CSC Academic All-District honoree, a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll selection and a three-time UGA Presidential Scholar. She served two terms as the Bulldogs' Student-Athlete Advisor Committee representative. As a senior in 2023, she was the recipient of the Ramsey Scholarship for Academic and Athletic Excellence.
During her prep career at Lambert, Haugen helped guide her team to the 2017 GHSAA Class 7A state championship, before earning the runner-up trophy two seasons later. She was a two-time USC High School All-American en route to setting the school's single-season goals (33) and assists (15) marks.
Additionally, Haugen was invited to a United States Youth National Training Camp and was a member of an Under-17 National Team Pool in 2018.
