Women’s Tennis advances three in ITA All-Americans prequalifying

The Longhorns earned two singles wins and one doubles victory on Saturday to open the tournament in Cary, N.C.
Cary, N.C. – Texas Women's Tennis earned three victories in the opening round of prequalifying at the ITA All-America Championships on Saturday in Cary, N.C.
Freshmen Carmen Herea and Ariana Anazagasty-Pursoo produced all three wins with both taking their singles matches and then partnering for a doubles victory later in the day. Herea downed Barbora Pokorna of Iowa, 6-2, 6-0, while Anazagasty-Pursoo also defeated a Hawkeye with a 6-2, 6-4 decision over Tereza Dejnozkova. Sophomore Shachf Lieberman also competed in singles, but fell to Imogen Haddad of USC, 6-4, 6-4.
In doubles, the second-seeded and No. 68 duo of Herea and Anazagasty-Pursoo topped No. 82 Nibedita Ghosh and Akari Matsuno of Notre Dame in a superbreaker, 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (8). Meanwhile, Lieberman and junior Vivian Ovrootsky, who are the No. 68 ranked pair, were downed by Ria Bhakta and Annabelle Davis of Clemson, 6-3, 6-2.
The second round of prequalifying will take place on Sunday with Herea playing Alana Boyce of UNC at 9 a.m. ET/8 a.m. CT, while Anazagasty-Pursoo will take on Amy Stevens of Vanderbilt at 10:30 a.m. ET/9:30 a.m. CT. They will then combine again in doubles to face Michela Moore and Peyton Capuano of Dartmouth at 6:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. CT.
