BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — University of Texas graduate forward Kadin Shedrick has earned a spot on the SEC Men's Basketball Community Service Team for the 2024-25 season, the conference office announced Thursday. Each of the league's 16 member institutions was represented by one player on this year's team.
This marks the 27th year for the SEC Community Service Team for men's basketball as well as for women's basketball. All 22 league-sponsored sports have had a Community Service Team since 2004, with at-large teams for men's and women's sports being chosen from 1999-2003. The SEC began the concept with a Football Community Service Team in 1994.
Throughout his six-year collegiate career at both the University of Virginia and The University of Texas, Shedrick has made a positive impact both in the respective campus communities and in his hometown of Holly Springs, N.C. Shedrick has volunteered for Journey League, which is a basketball league for kids with special needs in the Raleigh and Holly Springs communities in North Carolina.
During this past calendar year in Austin, he participated in the city's Juneteenth Parade on June 15 and was active in the university's Rise to Vote civic engagement session on September 12. In addition, Shedrick served as a volunteer coach for a Special Olympics day basketball camp in the Austin area and worked as a volunteer coach at Austin's Travis High School throughout the month of December 2024, assisting the school's junior varsity and varsity boys' basketball teams. He also has made it part of his routine to donate personal items to Goodwill once every two months.
A two-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Academic Team selection in 2022 and 2023 while at Virginia, Shedrick earned his bachelor's degree in Commerce from Virginia in Spring 2023. He is on pace to receive his master's degree in Strategic Communication from The University of Texas later this spring.
Texas (17-13, 6-11 SEC) returns to action when it hosts Oklahoma (18-12, 5-12 SEC) on Saturday, Mar. 8. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. Central at Moody Center, and the contest will be televised nationally by SEC Network.
