AUSTIN, Texas — Matas Vokietaitis has signed an Athletic Scholarship Agreement (ASA) to play basketball next season at The University of Texas, head coach Sean Miller announced Thursday. Vokietaitis, who spent last year playing at Florida Atlantic University, will join the Longhorns for the upcoming 2025-26 season and have three years of collegiate eligibility remaining.
Vokietaitis (7-0, 245), a center from Marijampole (pronounced: marr-ee-AHM-poh-lee), Lithuania, played in all 34 games (20 starts) last season and was named the American Athletic Conference (AAC) Freshman of the Year and selected to the league's All-Freshman Team. He ranked second on the team in rebounding (5.5 rpg), third in blocks (26) and fourth in scoring (10.2 ppg) in just 17.7 minutes per contest while helping the Owls post an 18-16 record (10-8 AAC) and advance to the NIT First Round.
A six-time AAC Freshman of the Week selection, Vokietaitis converted 67.7-percent (128-189) from the floor and reached double-figures in scoring 18 times, including two 20-point performances. He recorded a season-best 21 points (9-10 FG), eight rebounds and three blocks in 28 minutes at UAB (Mar. 6) and later tied his season high with 21 points (9-11 FG) to go along with a season-best 12 rebounds and one block in 28 minutes in an AAC Tournament game against Tulane (Mar. 14).
Vokietaitis was a member of the Lithuanian Under-20 National Team that competed at the 2024 FIBA U20 EuroBasket tournament (July 13-21) in Gdynia, Poland. He played in seven games and averaged 11.3 points and 8.4 rebounds per game during the tournament. Vokietaitis also represented Lithuania at the 2023 FIBA U20 European Championship and the 2022 FIBA U18 European Championship.
