AUSTIN, Texas — Simeon Wilcher has signed an Athletic Scholarship Agreement (ASA) to play basketball next season at The University of Texas, head coach Sean Miller announced Thursday. Swain, who spent the last two years playing at St. John's University, will join the Longhorns for the upcoming 2025-26 season.
Wilcher (6-4, 190), a guard from Plainfield, N.J., has played in 64 career games (27 starts) and registered 366 points (5.7 ppg) in 1,173 minutes (18.3 mpg) over the last two years at St. John's. He has converted 41.2-percent (145-352) from the floor and 71.7-percent (33-46) from the free throw line during his first two collegiate seasons. Wilcher has reached double figures in scoring 14 times in his career and has two years of collegiate eligibility remaining.
During his sophomore season in 2024-25 at St. John's, Wilcher played in all 36 games (25 starts) and ranked sixth on the team in scoring (8.0 ppg) and minutes (25.4 mpg) and fifth in assists (49) and steals (39) while helping the Red Storm post a 31-5 record (18-2 BIG EAST), sweep the BIG EAST regular season and tournament titles and advance to the NCAA Tournament Round of 32. He converted 40.7-percent (114-280) from the field and 73.7-percent (28-38) from the free throw line while reaching double figures in scoring 13 times on the season. Wilcher recorded a career-best 17 points (7-9 FG, 1-2 threes, 2-2 FT) in 27 minutes during the home victory against Fordham (Nov. 4). He also added 13 points (5-9 FG, 3-6 threes) in 26 minutes in the NCAA Tournament First Round win over Omaha (Mar. 20).
As a freshman in 2023-24, Wilcher played in 28 of a possible 33 games (two starts) and averaged 2.8 points and 1.1 assists in 9.1 minutes per contest while helping the Red Storm to a 20-13 record (11-9 BIG EAST). He converted 43.1-percent (31-72) from the floor, including a 41.7-percent (10-24) mark from three-point range, on the season. Wilcher registered a season-high 12 points (4-8 FG, 3-5 threes, 1-2 FT) in 19 minutes during a win at DePaul (Mar. 5).
Wilcher was a four-year letterwinner at Roselle Catholic High School in Roselle, N.J., who played for coach David Boff. He posted more than 1,200 points and nearly 500 assists during his four seasons at Roselle Catholic. Wilcher was tabbed the No. 28 prospect by ESPN and No. 34 by 247 Sports in The Class of 2023 national rankings. A two-time NJ.com first-team all-state selection (2022 and 2023), he led his team to back-to-back NJSIAA Non-Public B state titles as a junior and senior. During his senior season in 2022-23, Wilcher averaged 15.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game and recorded seven 20-point performances. He earned NJ.com Player of the Year honors as a junior in 2021-22, when he averaged 16.3 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.2 assists per contest. Wilcher had six double-doubles on the year and one triple-double, as he tallied 14 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists against Plainview (Jan. 4, 2022). During his sophomore season in 2020-21, he averaged 12.4 points and 5.7 assists per game and recorded a triple-double with 25 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in a win over St. Joseph's (Jan. 28, 2021).
