Rowing represented by seven former Longhorns at 2025 World Championships

Five former Longhorns will compete for Team USA – the most of any college program.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Rowing will be represented by a program-best seven former Longhorns at the 2025 World Championships on Sept. 21-28 at Dianshan Lake in Shanghai, China. Five former Longhorns will compete for Team USA – the most of any college program.
Kate Knifton (2019-23), Sophie Calabrese (2020-23), Etta Carpender (2019-24), Anna Jensen (2021-24) and Rachel Rane (2020-23) will represent Team USA. Lisa Gutfleisch (2020-22) will compete for Germany and Parker Illingworth (2021-24) will race for Canada. It'll be the first time racing at the senior World Championships for Calabrese, Carpender, Jensen, Rane and Illingworth.
"It's great to see so many of our former team members racing at the highest level in our sport," said Texas head coach Dave O'Neill. "I'm really proud of each of them as their individual journeys to this stage has not been easy by any means. No doubt they'll be well prepared and race hard, just as they'll always done."
All seven World Championship participants were a part of Texas' 2022 NCAA National Championship team. Rachel Rane will become the first female to cox a USA men's crew as she is coxing the Men's Eight later this month. Rane, a native of Glencoe, Ill., was a two-time First-Team All-American at Texas (2021-22) and garnered three All-Big 12 honors.
Kate Knifton, a 2024 Olympian for Team USA, is slated to race in the inaugural mixed eight at the World Championships. The Austin, Texas, native finished fifth in the four at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Etta Carpender won the US Rowing pair trial but declined the selection in order to focus on the eight.
