Men’s Basketball announces home-and-home series with Memphis

The Longhorns will host the Tigers on December 16, 2026, in Moody Center.
AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Texas and the University of Memphis have finalized an agreement to play a home-and-home series over the next two seasons, the two schools announced Friday morning. The Longhorns will host the Tigers next year in Moody Center on December 16, 2026. Memphis will play host to Texas during the 2027-28 season on a date still to be determined.
Tip time and television network coverage for next year's game in Austin will be announced at a later date.
Texas holds a 4-2 advantage in the all-time series between the two schools which dates back to the 1965-66 season. In the first meeting, the Longhorns claimed an 80-72 win at Memphis in the opening round of the Memphis State Classic on Dec. 20, 1965. Texas posted an 80-79 victory at No. 19 Memphis on Dec. 12, 1972, before No. 12 Memphis responded with a 90-82 win the following season in Austin on Dec. 13, 1973.
Texas and Memphis completed a home-and-home series during the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons, with the Longhorns winning both contests. On Jan. 6, 2005, No. 15 Texas claimed a 74-67 victory in Austin. The following year in Memphis (Jan. 2, 2006), No. 15 Texas recorded a 69-58 win at No. 4 Memphis.
In the most recent matchup between the two schools (March 30, 2008), No. 2 Memphis registered an 85-67 victory over the No. 7 Longhorns in an NCAA Tournament Elite Eight contest in Houston's Reliant Stadium.
