AUSTIN, Texas — Amari Evans has signed an Athletic Scholarship Agreement (ASA) to play basketball next season at The University of Texas, head coach Sean Miller announced Monday. Evans, who spent last year playing at the University of Tennessee, will join the Longhorns for the upcoming 2026-27 season and have three years of collegiate eligibility remaining.
Evans (6-5, 220), a guard from Pittsburgh, Pa., played in 35 of a possible 37 games (two starts) last season while helping Tennessee post a 25-12 record (11-7 SEC) and advance to the NCAA Elite Eight. He averaged 4.1 points and 3.2 rebounds in 14.4 minutes per game and tied for third on the team in steals (34). During SEC play, Evans played in all 18 games (two starts) and averaged 5.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 18.1 minutes per contest.
Evans reached double figures in scoring in three contests, including a season-best 24 points (9-18 FG) to go along with six rebounds and three steals in a season-best 32 minutes against Vanderbilt (March 7). He also recorded 16 points (7-7 FG, 1-1 threes), three boards and three steals in 23 minutes at No. 18 Arkansas (Jan. 3). Evans became just the 16th Division I freshman in the last 20 seasons (dating back to the 2005-06 season) to make at least seven field goals without a miss on the road against a Power Five opponent. He added seven points (3-6 FG, 1-2 threes) and a season-high eight rebounds (five offensive) in 28 minutes at No. 17/18 Alabama (Feb. 28).
Evans spent his final two seasons of high school at Overtime Elite (Atlanta, Ga.), where he was tabbed the No. 50 prospect by 247 Sports, No. 67 by 247 Sports Composite and No. 69 by On3 in the Class of 2025 national rankings. He was a two-time Overtime Elite Defensive Player of the Year who set the Overtime Elite career record for steals (118).
As a senior, Evans averaged 15.8 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.5 steals per game and earned First Team All-Overtime Elite honors while leading City Reapers to the Overtime Elite championship game. During his junior season, he averaged 10.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.2 steals per contest and helped City Reapers win the Overtime Elite championship. Evans attended Our Saviour Lutheran School (Bronx, N.Y.) in his sophomore year and spent his freshman season at Bishop Canevin High School in his hometown of Pittsburgh. He helped Bishop Canevin win its first-ever PIAA state title in any boys' sport with a 64-47 victory over Neumann Regional Academy in the 1A final.
