Johnson earned honorable mention All-Big 12 and NABC All-Mountain District First-Team accolades as a freshman at Colorado.
AUSTIN, Texas — Isaiah Johnson has signed an Athletic Scholarship Agreement (ASA) to play basketball next season at The University of Texas, head coach Sean Miller announced Monday. Johnson, who spent last year playing at the University of Colorado, will join the Longhorns for the upcoming 2026-27 season and have three years of collegiate eligibility remaining.
Johnson (6-1, 170), a guard from Los Angeles, Calif., played in 32 of a possible 33 games (15 starts) last season and earned honorable mention All-Big 12 Conference and National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-Mountain District First Team accolades. He led the team in scoring (16.9 ppg), steals (33), three-point field goals made (56), free throws made (160) and free throws attempted (195) and ranked second in assists (96), three-point field goal percentage (.378) and minutes (30.6 mpg) while helping the Buffaloes post a 17-16 record (7-12 Big 12) and advance to the College Basketball Crown quarterfinals.
Johnson's 16.9 points per game scoring average ranked third in the Big 12 and 13th nationally in Division I among freshmen. His 540 points broke Colorado's freshman season scoring record, topping the previous mark of 512 by Alec Burks in 2009-10. Johnson became the eighth freshman in Colorado history to lead the team in scoring since the NCAA made freshmen eligible in 1972.
Johnson reached double figures in scoring in 29 of his 32 games last year, including a team-best nine 20-point performances. He posted a season-high 28 points (7-14 FG, 4-6 threes, 10-11 FT) while adding five assists in 36 minutes against No. 2/2 Arizona (March 7). This marked the ninth-best single-game total by a Colorado freshman in program history. Johnson went 13-of-13 from the free throw line against No. 14/14 Texas Tech (Jan. 10), the fourth-most free throws made without a miss in school history. He also tallied 24 points (6-9 FG, 2-3 FT, 10-12 FT), all in the second half, in the season opener against Montana State (Nov. 3). This marked the second-most points in a freshman debut in program history.
Johnson was a four-year letterwinner at Campbell Hall High School in Los Angeles, Calif. He was tabbed the No. 21 player in the state of California by 247 Sports in the Class of 2025 rankings. As a senior, Johnson averaged 26.7 points, 5.6 assists and 3.6 rebounds per game while leading Campbell Hall to a 19-10 record and the CIF-SS quarterfinals. He earned All-CIF Southern Section Second Team, All-Gold Coast League First Team and Los Angeles Daily News All-Area recognition following his senior season. During his junior year, Johnson paced Campbell Hall to the CIF-SS 2AA quarterfinals.
